If the Luo Allow Themselves to be Duped, We Will be in Worse Situation. History Matters.

The attempted 1982 coup was like the 2024 attempted coup via Gen Zs. The organizing principle was the same. Remove the President, install the VP/DP. With that, the Kikuyu then returns to power to continue with their mediocre rule over other natives.

Whereas in 1982 they succeeded in giving the coup a Luo face, in 2024, they merely replaced the “Luo front” with the “tribeless, partyless and leaderless front” after their failure to recruit Raila before the coup — a failure which occurred after Dr. Oburu Odinga flatly rejected that path. God bless him.

What had been planned was to use Raila/ODM/GenZ/etc to topple President Ruto, then force a constitutional transition post-Ruto’s fall, with Gachagua already conveniently flown to Mombasa to assume the vacant presidential power.

You recall President Ruto recently saying some suggested to him to escape to Uganda.

In 1982, had Moi fell, it was VP Mwai Kibaki who would have ascended to power.

The primitive tribalist and beneficiary of the Kenyatta state would have plunged Kenya into worse tribalism and eventually war, for the Kikuyu have not learnt that their dream to rule other Kenyan communities with iron fist will never work. 2007 would have come in the mid-1980s.

Be that as it may, in 2024, had Ruto fell; it was Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who would have ascended to power.

Gachagua already conveniently flew to Mombasa, awaiting President Ruto to ‘escape’ to Uganda. With his shareholder mentality, I shudder to imagine where Kenya would be today. We dodged a bullet. Go listen to his Mombasa speech post-the failure to topple Ruto. He was bitterest, maddest and lost!

In 1982, the Kikuyus were whispering to Jaramogi that he would be the one to ascend to power when Moi falls. In 2024, they were whispering the same to Raila Odinga. They were telling Raila that he would be the one to assume power. “Mzee help us remove Ruto, and take charge…we will give this thing to you…”

In the pre-coup 1982, the Kikuyu were the major power group surrounding Moi, for they held the state’s core positions. The Moi state in 1982 was still the Kenyatta state intact as it were in 1978. The Kikuyu still controlled the highest echelons of power, from the Vice presidency downstream. In the pre-coup 2024, it was the same scenario.

But in the after-coup 1982, Moi went hard to disrupt the existing status quo, diluting the entrenched Kikuyu power around him and opening up the state for other communities, more particularly the Luo. That’s how the likes of Hezekiah Oyugi got called up to helm internal security. That’s how several Luo professors got state assignments to reform education, culminating in the establishment of the second university in Kenya, and 8-4-4. Had Kenya remained with the education system of the Kenyatta state, this country would today be full of so many illiterates!

In the post-2024 coup, President Ruto dissolved govt, opening up the state for other communities, again, particularly, the Luo. The losers in pre-coup 2024 became the core beneficiaries of the post-coup 2024; this to the extreme anger and annoyance of the “real” coup plotters, a situation which obtains till this hour. Which community is the most bitter today with President Ruto?

Ironically, in the post-1982 coup, the collapsing Kikuyu power elites went all in to forge a new alliance with the Luo as their primary principal partners.

The Luo who had been out since the late 1960s, suddenly found themselves being seduced by the Kikuyu, who had singly contributed to the Luo collapse from 1969.

Sadly, Luo leaders of the time fell for the trap, eventually abandoning a nascent detente with Moi to form FORD alongside Kikuyus.

In the end, they tried to force their way back to power using Luos, whom they’d again subjugated. This spectacularly collapsed with Matiba (and Kibaki) all defeated in 1992; and Luos left in a worse situation.

Moi went ahead to do 10 more years!

In 2024, you all can see the new Kikuyu attempts to recruit Luos to fight Ruto eventhough when Kikuyus were in power around Ruto, it was the Luo they most wanted out of power (skiza ground). Listen to Gachagua after 2022. Arrogant, tribalistic, petty and full of raw power. Lectured Raila as a small child in Nyandarua. Pride comes before a fall, indeed!

Today, again, it is the Luo that the Kikuyu is most desperate to recruit in their anti-Ruto war. The Luo absence in the frontlines has been the most disappointing thing. They’re not giving up.

But if the Luo allow themselves to be duped, we will be in worse situation. History matters. The historical record points to a sad end to such incestuous associations.

It is for this reason that James Orengo, Auntie Ruth B, Niwi A, Babu Owino and the rest of those Kikuyu playthings MUST BE DEFEATED.
