TEAM EDWIN SIFUNA SEES Babu Owino AS A BURDEN

There are growing internal tensions within the Edwin W. Sifuna camp, where some key figures increasingly view Babu Owino as more of a political liability than an asset.

Babu’s characteristic chest-thumping, political bravado and aggressive positioning have reportedly put him on a collision course with influential personalities within the Linda Mwananchi movement, including Caleb Amisi. At the centre of the disagreement is the emerging push for a united opposition front featuring Kalonzo Musyoka and Edwin Sifuna against President William Samoei Ruto.

While Babu Owino has publicly maintained that he has no presidential ambitions, his increasingly visible political engagements- including reported late-night meetings with Kalonzo Musyoka – have raised eyebrows and reportedly angered sections of the Linda Mwananchi leadership.

The situation was further aggravated by the chaos and bravado associated with Ongili’s appearance in Homa Bay. Some within the Linda Mwananchi wing are particularly uncomfortable with the language and political messaging associated with Babu’s camp, including references such as “colonising Homa Bay.”

Their concern is strategic: such rhetoric could alienate the Nyanza electorate and ultimately make it significantly harder for Sifuna and the wider Linda Mwananchi team to build political ground in Raila Odinga’s traditional backyard.
The emerging question within the camp is simple: Is Babu Owino an asset to the movement- or a burden Sifuna’s team may eventually have to manage?
